Friends of Page Valley

Meetings Calendar Membership Officers Comments
Several years ago, a small group of residents gathered to discuss ways to maintain the balance between economic stability and Page Valley's healthy and scenic environment - qualities which make the valley such a special place in which to live and work.   From this gathering came "Friends of Page Valley".

Friends of Page Valley carries out a variety of activities to accomplish its goal.   Friends...

Educational Meetings: FRIENDS sponsors educational meetings on various topics related to the natural beauty, clean air and water in the valley. Topics have included nutrient management, the Karst topography which underlies the Shenandoah Valley, Sustainable Agriculture and the Family Farm, Route 340 expansion, and Page County's Battle Creek Landfill. The public is invited.

Monitoring Local Boards & Commissions: Members attend and participate in meetings of the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission and Planning Commission subcommittees as these bodies have undertaken revision of the Comprehensive Plan, writing a nutrient waste management plan (to control the disposition of poultry house litter and manure from other confined feeding operations such as hog pens) and resolving numerous zoning matters. Currently, members are monitoring the Page County Water Quality Advisory Committee's water testing program and results.

Encouraging Citizen Participation: The best run local government is where citizens are involved sharing information, educating each other and making their wishes known. Membership offers you a chance to be part of this effort in Page Valley. We invite you to join so that all of us - homeowners, merchants, small businesses, industry, farmers, and County officials - can work together to ensure that economic and environmental interests affecting our daily lives will be addressed.

Quarterly Newsletter: Friends publishes a quarterly newsletter. To receive the newsletter send your name and address to the Secretary (See "Officers").

Membership is open to anyone wanting to join at $15 for families, $10 for individuals and $3 for students. Friends of Page Valley meets regularly once a month (the last Thursday) in the Circuit Court Room, Page County Court House at 7:00 PM.

Comments: Friends welcomes your comments and wants to know your particular interests. Please send your comments via e-mail or postal service so that we can contact you for meetings on specific topics and to get your views and opinions on matters which particularly concern you.
